Conversations with Glenn Gould
Conversations with Glenn Gould
- Jonathan Cott
- Biography
If you have heard recordings of Glenn Gould's playing and you want to learn more about him then this book is a great place to start. I would have suggested the DVD '32 Short Films About Glenn Gould' as being a better place but it is sadly out of print. Quite how a film, held in a digital form like DVD, can command such prices is beyond my comprehension. But it was this film that my interest in Glenn Gould started. I had bought a few of his CD's, the Goldberg Variations being one of them, and read that a film had been made about him. Since then I've bought more CDs, the 2 and 3 Part Inventions by J.S. Bach being a firm favourite, books, more videos and recently DVD documentaries about his life and work.
The interviews were conducted in 1974 for Rolling Stone magazine and were only collected together after Glenn's death. While reading these interviews with Glenn I swear I could hear his voice.
