- Kazuo Ishiguro
Now that I’ve finished the book there are still questions that I have that the plot didn’t answer. It seems to be set in the 1980’s, there is a mention of a cassette tape but no mention of CD’s or MP3’s, but at the time there was human cloning. Who was responsible for all this, the government, the NHS, no corporation is mentioned. If a person can donate 3, or even 4, times then how can they still be alive. The donors health deteriorates but what replacement organs are they receiving in return. The book doesn’t even mention what is being donated each time. If they’ve been created just for their organs how does anyone govern who gets them.
It was interesting how the reader was slowly being drip fed information. It wasn’t science fiction, it wasn’t a romance novel, but it was worth reading.
