Don't Make Me Think

  • A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability
  • Steve Krug
  • Web Design/Web Development
  • Amazon.co.uk

Previously I’ve read Designing with Web Standards by Jeffrey Zeldman and I’ve read Dom Scripting by Jeremy Keith. On both occasions there has been that ‘eureka’ moment when a concept or an idea has just clicked and the whole way you think about things changes.

I was waiting for that to happen with this book. But it didn’t happen. Thankfully I know the reason why and the clue is in the books tagline. Yes, common sense.

Web Usability just isn’t a subject that is all that exciting for web designers or web application developers. They would much rather be learning about the latest tricks and tips. But in the end what is the average web surfer going to see first, poor design and navigation or a slick bit of HTML or Javascript?
