- Charles Addams
Great cartoons that don’t always feature the Addams family characters, who were only named when the TV series was created.
I once read that Charles Addams suffered from depression. He was creating cartoons for the New Yorker newspaper and his drawings would get darker and darker, befitting his mood. The staff at the newspaper knew this and one cartoon was allegedly too dark for publication. It depicted an alleyway, a sinister figure, cloaked appropriately, was standing outside a door way. A nurse, standing in a circle of light was holding a baby, wrapped in a blanket. The figure was looking down at the infant. The caption simply read, “Don’t wrap it, I’ll eat it on the way home”. Delicious.
